Depression, Anxiety, and Stress
These are terms that are often overused and used to describe a multitude of emotional states. Low mood, lack of energy, loss of libido, poor concentration, increased/decreased appetite, disrupted sleep, too much sleep, struggling to wake up, struggling to settle down, feeling too up or too down, restlessness, high levels of stress, self-doubt, fearfulness, lack of hope, feeling helpless, loss of motivation, loss of joy, and the list goes on. All of these are signs of mood and/or anxiety conditions that may need to be treated. Our psychologists and psychotherapists adopt a broad approach so as to consider all possible options for treatment including: therapy, diet, exercise, medication, meditation, and group therapy.
Working alongside your general practitioner or psychiatrist may also be necessary, as well as including whanau in the process of healing. Our psychologists and psychotherapists are trained to work with various presentations of depression and anxiety and will work with you to figure out the path forward. From symptom relief to deeper work, our therapists will aim for longer term solutions wherever possible. In our practice, depending on their expertise, therapists utilise interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) for mood disorders, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mentalization-based treatment (MBT), supportive psychotherapy (SP), and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).
