Kia ora. I grew up on a farm near the ocean in Mohua Golden Bay Aotearoa. During my twenties, I spent many years backpacking all over the world and living overseas. Tāmaki Makaurau is now my home, where I am a fulltime relational psychotherapist working with young adults (18 – early thirties).
As a relational psychotherapist, I help people reduce immediate distress, reflect on and process painful experiences, deepen self-understanding, increase relational capacities and discover new and more fulfilling ways of being themselves in the world.
As social beings, how we perceive ourselves, others, and the world is profoundly influenced by our relationships. The quality of our relationships is therefore the most powerful determinant of overall emotional well-being. Relational psychotherapy offers an opportunity to explore how relationships may influence your present distress and provides the space to discover new ways of being. The therapeutic relationship also provides a meaningful human connection, based in empathy, curiosity and honesty, and offers you a new way to work through immediate emotional and relational difficulties.
I adapt my approach to each individual, drawing from diverse theories such as attachment theory, psychodynamic developmental theories, intersubjective self psychology, interpersonal neurobiology, evolutionary psychology, polyvagal theory, indigenous theories, eco-psychology, and feminist-cultural therapy.
I have experience in complex mental health, sexual trauma, crisis counselling, suicide prevention, and financial hardship support. I also spent 10 years in a global spiritual (non-religious) personal development organisation, and am interested in the future of psychedelic medicine in mental health. I completed my Masters thesis on the relationship between attachment and climate anxiety, as part of my interest in our collective existential experiences.
